Katy Perry has dished on what her new collaboration with Nicki Minaj is all about.
The Roar pop star appeared on The Late Show on Friday and host Jimmy Fallon didn’t waste much time before quizzing Katy about the meaning behind the song, which of course many have assumed could be a dig at Taylor Swift after the pair’s huge fall out.
“Swish Swish – is that about anybody we know?” he asked.
“I think it’s a great anthem for people to use whenever somebody’s trying to hold you down or bully you,” she said while raising her eyebrows.
“That’s kinda what this record is about, it’s just like 360-degree liberation,” she continued.
“Chained to the Rhythm was this political liberation, Bon Appétit was a sexual liberation and now, I think this is kind of, Swish represents the liberation from all the negative that doesn’t serve you.”
Without naming the individual at the centre of her track Bad Blood, Taylor said it was about someone who was a “straight-up enemy” that tried to “sabotage an entire tour”.
Though Katy has seemingly made reference to the tensions between them during Taylor’s past public spats with Kim Kardashian West and Calvin Harris, she has never directly addressed the rumours.
Katy became embroiled in Taylor’s row with Calvin after it emerged the Shake It Off star secretly wrote his track This Is What You Came For.
And the Scottish DJ confirmed their feud when he tweeted: “I know you’re off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy ETC but I’m not that guy, sorry. I won’t allow it.”
She also later seemingly backed Kim Kardashian after the reality star took a swipe at Taylor over Kanye West’s Famous lyrics.
